Advantages of wooden holds
Why wooden holds are better than
plastic holds?
Wood
Plastic
Effect on the skin
Gentle on the skin, they save it for your outdoor project.
More aggressive on the skin, they wear it out more quickly.
Hold
They provide a secure grip without being overly aggressive.
High grip, make your muscles work less.
Magnesite use
Little magnesite, part of it is absorbed by the wood, limiting its use.
They absorb a lot of magnesite and get dirty faster.
Cleaning
Easy to clean, just a brush and/or a wipe with 80g sandpaper.
They are easy to clean but require the use of many litres of water and possibly detergents.
Aspect
Natural and charming, they create a warm and cosy ambience.
Many colours, shapes and sizes, but they give a more industrial and cold feeling.
Enviroments
Environmentally friendly, they are created from recycled and FSC/PEFC certified wood.
Made from limited, non-renewable and more polluting resources.
Effect on the skin
Wood has a smoother and less abrasive surface, reducing the risk of irritations, cuts and abrasions that can occur during prolonged training sessions.
This is a big advantage for all climbers, especially those who wish to train frequently without having to postpone training sessions due to pain and the poor condition of the skin on their hands.
Hold
The wood of WHISE holds and tools has a surface that, while smooth, provides a secure grip without being overly aggressive.
In this way, it stimulates the climber to generate more force to keep himself attached to the grip or tool, contributing to the activation of more muscle groups. This results in a more intense and complete workout than using the plastic counterpart for the same intensity of exercise.
Cleaning
Wood tends not to accumulate dirt and dust in the same way as plastic and can be cleaned simply by using a brush and, if necessary, 80g sandpaper.
In addition, wood has natural antibacterial properties that can help keep holds more hygienic over time. We, the WHISE team, recommend that you get into the good habit of brushing your wooden holds and equipment both before and especially after you finish your training session, in order to prolong their life.
Aspect
Wood is often preferred for its natural and pleasant image, which lends a more organic and harmonious appearance to the training environment, creating a warmer and cosier atmosphere. This allows us, albeit partly and unconsciously, to connect during our training sessions with nature, generating a positive feeling throughout the duration of the climb.
Furthermore, wood tends to retain its beauty and vibrancy over time, while plastic can discolour and deteriorate more easily with continued use.
Enviroments
Most WHISE products are created with recycled wood from production residues of carpentry and sawmills. In this way, we contribute to the reduction of felled trees and CO2 emissions. Conversely, the production of plastic holds uses limited, non-renewable and more polluting resources.
At the end of their life cycle, WHISE holds and tools can be disposed of by using them as a source of heat to heat one’s home or, by separating any other materials of which they are made, at an eco-centre in one’s area.
